    • After studying this unit you will be able to:

      1. understand advantages and disadvantages of public speaking in a foreign language;
      2. prepare well for an online presentation;
      3. do a final check of any presentation and public speech, using the checklist provided.

      1. How do you feel when a foreigner attempts to speak your language?
      2. What are your own speaking strengths and weaknesses and how do they manifest themselves when you speak in a foreign language? What can you do to diminish the weaknesses?
      3. When talking to people online using cameras, what issues have you noticed? How can they be solved?

      1. Native speakers of English are usually more irritated when English is spoken badly by other native speakers than by non-native speakers. Moreover, people are willing to forgive a lot from a person who does not speak English well if he or she explains in the beginning that they are not a native speaker.
      2. On the other hand, native speakers of English will be annoyed by people who cannot speak English properly in their professional capacity. They will also expect written English to be grammatically correct, with appropriate vocabulary and tone.
      3. You can always use text checkers online, for example Paper Rater, to improve the language of your presentation.
